David Saville and Ben Murray found themselves living in a less than ideal house, in an area that offered none of the neighbourly atmosphere they were looking for. The pair wanted to find a place where they could prepare for the next stage of their life together. The Help to Buy scheme at Heron Fields, from Hyde New Homes and Westerhill Homes, offered the ideal combination of space and community feel.
Project manager David and his partner Ben were searching for a property that met their needs, and was exactly the right fit. It was clear to see that for this couple ‘average’ wouldn’t make the cut. Ben said, “We’d been looking for two years and we wanted to purchase together. Having lived in the centre of Sittingbourne for the last three years, we were looking for a suburban neighbourhood close by that had more to offer us.” They finally found Heron Fields, and purchased a three-bedroom detached house, just two miles from the centre of Sittingbourne. David commented, “We were won over by the style of the houses in the development — our home is spacious with a large garden. When we moved in, we were pleasantly surprised as it seemed even larger than advertised.”
Heron Fields comprises expansive two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, including generous outdoor space, providing the necessary room for young families to thrive. The houses boast high specifications throughout, including fully fitted Paula Rosa kitchens, equipped with integrated Indesit appliances, with the ability to upgrade specific extras. David said, “It was nice to be able to choose our finish in the kitchen and bathroom.” Ben commented, “It was lovely having our friends and family coming round to see it. They all approved and have lots of positive things to say about it.”
With a market value of £257,500, David and Ben put down an 8% deposit of £20,560. They did this by using a 20% Help to Buy loan, then taking out a mortgage on the remaining share of 72%. Ben added, “With a new build, it’s nice to know there are no hidden issues and you really notice the higher level of insulation. I couldn’t face another winter in our previous house — it was so cold.” Moving into the development, David and Ben were instantly struck by the community aspect and how welcome they felt. David explained, “The community spirit is more prevalent than we could have ever imagined. It’s such a big change from where we lived previously. It’s simply amazing.” Positioned on the peaceful suburban edge of Sittingbourne, Kent, Heron Fields is just a short drive from the town centre which, along with the local area, is currently undergoing a significant regeneration. This will provide many new amenities which are perfect for weekend entertainment. Other aspects of the local area include excellent leisure facilities and a number of picturesque green spaces.
